Amathus Sea Side Walking Path

Just a few minutes from the city center, in an area that combines the aromas and breeze of the sea with the ancient heritage of Limassol, you will find a refuge so close, yet so far from the bustling everyday life.

The 5 km long walkway covers almost the entire beachfront of east Limassol, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy a unique walk, with the Ancient city of Amathus to the north and the blue waters of the area to the south.

The wooden walkway passes through the archaeological site, where the kingdom of Amathus once flourished, from where one can also admire the ruins of the sunken ancient port, below the surface of the sea.

Whether you choose to visit it in the morning, afternoon, or evening, this pedestrian street is just as charming.

Amathus ruins at Limassol 1

In antiquity, a city’s agora was the traditional hub for commercial and political activities. In Amathous, the agora was a large rectangular stone - paved area, flanked by porticoes on three sides and a monumental square fountain in the centre. The small rooms at the back of the west portico were used as shops. Along the open, fourth side on the south ran the main road of the lower city. On the other side were the Hellenistic baths. Roman baths were found on the east of the east portico. The many buildings surrounding the agora played an important role in the public life of the city.
